Avery's Room- Before and After

The first room we tackled when we moved was to get Avery's room finalized and situated.  Go figure that the tiniest family member (minus Lexi who sleeps in a 2ft by 2ft box) got her room done first.  As you can see in the before pictures, the previous owners painted the trim the same ugly beige color that is on the walls...Why you ask?  Great question friends, one that I have asked out loud to the home decor gods numerous times!  Didn't they know that trim is supposed to be white, crisp and clean?!  Regardless, we will be repainting trim in this house for the next 7 years I suppose.  One room at a time :)

We also painted her walls the same color her nursery was in Houston, plus finally hung her curtains, changed out the light fixture for her chandelier, etc.. Really the only thing I would like to add would eventually be a rug on her floor now that she is in a room with hardwoods.  Just makes it cozier, and I would love for her to have a place to play in her own room.

Little Nug just wanted her books :)

Can't wait for more before and afters! Hopefully the den will be done sooner rather than later.  This home remodeling thing is not so great for those who struggle with patience :)

Smith Family Vacation 2013

Per usual tradition, we spent last week at the beach with my family.  Unfortunately due to M's new job he was only able to come for the first weekend :( But now that we are back in Bham, it is only like a 4.5 hour drive to the beach, which is AWESOME!  I think I said at least 4 times while we were there, "I'm so thankful that I don't have to drive back to Texas at the end of the week!"

We are now back in the real world.  I am very blessed that my very part-time work schedule allowed me to take Aves down for the week.  Who knows what next summer will look like when I will be back in school.  Yikes!

Avery's favorite person, she would only go to her in the morning... not even Mommy! Aves was saying, "Ahsdey" all week.

Her favorite thing to do all week was play "Ride Little Horsey" with Honey. Love that sweet smile

Got Mac N' Cheese all up in her hair :)

Just lounging.

Love my sweet sister who loves Avery like her own!

It was a fantastic, relaxing week.  Mom does not do the sun, so she was more than happy to stay up in the condo in the afternoons while Avery napped.  SO nice to sit by the pool and read books without a care in the world.  Thanks Mom!

Thankful for my parents for providing all the fun and food for the week.  Now that I'm back, I'm in desperate need of a vacation detox. :)  Hope everyone has a great week!  We are nearing the completion of a our den renovation.  M finished the built-ins and window seat, the painter comes today and tomorrow, and the carpet is being replaced Friday!  Cannot wait!

Sam's 3rd Birthday!

Happy birthday to the oldest of our two favorite nephews!  Sammy, we remember the day you were born, and now we cannot believe you are now a big 3 year old!  We love you!

Kristen definitely outdid herself planning the perfect "Cars" themed party.  She did an AMAZING job.... I'm sure J helped too ;)  Super cute, and perfect for our car-loving Sammy.

Mimi and Papa brought Avery her very own little rocking chair made with wood from the farm.  She has loved rocking in that thing... and attempting to stand up in it when she thinks Mommy isn't looking.  This child is fearless.

Yes, Sam's shirt has a 3 on it, and Will's has a 0.. sweet brothers!
Yes, these are all homemade.  Incredible, right?!

Party friends.
Avery kept stealing popcorn (no worries, the kind that dissolves!) from the cute little boy sitting next to her, so he gave in and just started feeding them to her :)
Sam's brand new ride from Benj and Morgan.

Happy 4th!

Per tradition, Matthew and I spent the 4th at Ed and Shawn's for their annual 4th of July bash!  Last year we barely missed it as we were at the beach with my parents for that week, and the year before we had just moved to Houston (but let's not dwell too much on that... :)  The last 4th party we were able to attend, we invited Heather and Russ to come down... since then, they have spent countless evenings at Chez Shed, and the 4th party has become a tradition for them as well.  Russ even swapped his schedule so he could come!  Geoff and Mollie were obviously there as well as they have become staples at Ed and Shawn's over the years too.

It looked a bit different this year, considering the last time we were all childless.  This year, we were chasing after our 2 girls, but once they were safely asleep in their pack n plays, we were able to enjoy dinner and fireworks without worrying one of the two might take a accident dip in the pool.

Hope everyone had a great holiday!  We loved having our best friends here with us!

Avery loved pushing Maddie around on the Mickey car.
Sweet friends.  They really enjoyed playing together this time around!

I loved Mollie playing with me.
Love my Uncle Geoff!

So glad to be back in the same town as these 2!
